Rescue hedgehogs
We encourage all potential customers to explore the option of pygmy hedgehog rescue, which typically costs less and helps reduce the amount of hogs without homes, before committing to a breeder hoglet.

In the UK, the gene pool for APHs has been getting less and less diverse, which is another reason that rescue hogs help to ease this burden on the species. As such, we at Somerset Hoglets may be terminating our service in the near future until more diverse lineages emerge.
To prevent safety and abandonment risks down the line, we offer a 6-month window in which you can return your hedgie, with no cost and no questions asked.
Health monitoring
All of our pygmy hedgehogs undergo daily health checks and weighing from the 3rd week onwards, and are raised in a nurturing environment before going to their new homes. Mum is always monitored closely and her diet supplemented, to ensure optimal health for her and her hoglets.
We request that any new homes for our hogs keep us updated on health changes, particularly relating to heritable conditions like wobbly hedgehog syndrome (WHS), which are growing problems in this species as genetic diversity reduces.
Expert Guidance
Having owned pygmy hedgehogs for years ourselves, we have accumulated a wealth of knowledge on their care, requirements, and tips.
As such, we provide comprehensive care tips and resources in the form of a care sheet and starter pack with every hoglet, as well as the opportunity for ongoing communication, to help new owners confidently transition into caring for their hedgehogs.
